“Los Altos Home Burglary: Four Suspects on the Run After Candy Ruse”
Authorities are searching for four suspects linked to a home burglary that occurred over the weekend, according to a news release from the Los Altos Police Department. The incident took place between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on September 28, when three male suspects broke into a residence on the 700 block of Covington Road by smashing a rear glass door in the backyard.
The suspects were reportedly “scared away” by the occupants, who were inside at the time of the break-in. Fortunately, no items were stolen, but the suspects managed to escape in a newer model gray Dodge Durango with tinted windows and no license plate.
Prior to the break-in, a fourth suspect, a female, was captured on video at the front door of the residence holding a box of candy. Investigators believe this may have been a tactic to check if anyone was home. When no one answered, the three male suspects proceeded to break into the house.
Descriptions of the suspects released by the Los Altos Police Department are as follows:
- Suspect 1: A Hispanic or African American female with a medium to heavy build, curly or frizzy hair in a ponytail, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue pants, and a light-colored medical mask.
- Suspect 2: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, a medical mask, and white sneakers.
- Suspect 3: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, dressed in a dark-colored sweatshirt, possible gray sweatpants, a white medical mask, and black gloves.
- Suspect 4: A male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, black pants, red boxer-style underwear, a medical mask, and black gloves.
Fortunately, the home’s occupants were not harmed during the incident. Authorities suspect these individuals may also be connected to a similar crime that occurred in Hillsborough approximately an hour before the Los Altos break-in.
