“Join the League of Women Voters for Candidate Forums in Las Cruces”
The League of Women Voters of Southern New Mexico (LWVSNM) is hosting two public forums to engage the community with local candidates who will appear on the November 5 ballot.
Both forums will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, and October 8, at the Las Cruces City Hall Council Chambers, located at 700 N. Main St.
The first forum on October 1 will feature candidates running for Doña Ana County Commission districts four and five, as well as those competing for district attorney in the Third Judicial District. Notably, no candidates for Doña Ana County Commission district two will be present, according to the LWVSNM.
The forum on October 8 will highlight candidates for the New Mexico Senate, with hopes of also including candidates running for the New Mexico House of Representatives.
“These forums will provide an opportunity for the community to learn about the candidates and their positions on key issues,” said LWVSNM President Jo Galván Nash. “As a nonpartisan organization, the League does not endorse any candidates or parties, ensuring that all candidates have an equal opportunity to address a variety of questions.”
Both events are co-sponsored by the Doña Ana County chapter of the NAACP and the American Association of University Women.
Before each forum, the LWVSNM will outline the rules for candidates and the audience. Candidates will have the chance to present brief opening and closing statements, and attendees will be able to meet the candidates following the forums.
Voters can find additional candidate questions and responses at www.Vote411.org, which will be available starting October 4. Furthermore, the League will distribute Voter Guides in both English and Spanish throughout Doña Ana County via the Las Cruces Bulletin and Camino Real Media.
Residents can also access electronic versions of the Voter Guides on the League’s website.
