The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that ANSWERS Pet Food, a company based in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, is voluntarily withdrawing certain beef and chicken dog food products after samples tested positive for salmonella and listeria monocytogenes.
In a notice issued by the FDA, ANSWERS Pet Food stated that the withdrawal is being carried out “out of an abundance of caution.” The affected dog food, distributed nationwide in 4-pound bags and sold online, is being communicated to the public, distributors, and retail stores.

Customers are advised to check for specific products that have been identified by the company, which has provided images of the items in question.
The FDA recommends that any products from the affected lots should be discarded or destroyed in a manner that prevents access by children, pets, and wildlife. It is also important to sanitize any areas that may have come into contact with the contaminated food.
To handle potentially contaminated food safely, the FDA advises against touching it with bare hands. Instead, they recommend wearing gloves or using paper towels when placing any contaminated product in a sealed bag for disposal.
So far, no illnesses related to the recalled dog food have been reported. The FDA notes that while listeria monocytogenes rarely causes illness in dogs, only a few species of salmonella are harmful to pets or humans among the thousands that exist.
For more information on the health risks associated with salmonella and listeria, you can refer to additional resources provided by the FDA.
