“New Mexico Charter Schools Awarded $2 Million Each in Grant Funding”
The Public Charter Schools of New Mexico (PCSNM) has announced the allocation of $4 million in funding to two charter schools in New Mexico. The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science in Alamogordo and Equip Academy of New Mexico in Albuquerque will each be awarded $2 million.
The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science will become the first public charter school in Alamogordo, with a curriculum focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. This funding will support the school in serving students from 9th to 12th grade.
Equip Academy of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque, serves students from kindergarten through 5th grade. The school’s founder, Mercy Herrera, emphasizes its commitment to providing a culturally responsive education and fostering a supportive community where students can thrive.
The funding will be distributed as subgrants from the Charter School Program grant, which PCSNM received from the U.S. Department of Education in 2023.
