New Mexico Judge Rules “Rust” Armorer to Stay in Jail Amid Involuntary Manslaughter Case
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer sentenced to 18 months for involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, will not be released from prison anytime soon.
The tragic incident, which also injured the film’s director, occurred in 2021 on the set of the movie Rust. Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney recently filed a motion to dismiss the charge and sought her release while the appeal is pending.
However, on Monday, the judge ruled that Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyers failed to demonstrate that she would not pose a flight risk or a danger to others if released. As a result, she will continue to serve her sentence.
